Returns & refunds
We want you to love every book you receive. If something isn't right, we'll do our best to make it right.
New books
New books may be returned within 14 days of delivery for a full refund, provided they are unread and in their original condition — no cracked spines, markings, or missing dust jackets. Items must be securely packaged for return.
Used books
Used books are sold as described in their individual listings. Each listing notes the condition — Good, Very Good, Like New, and so on — and we stand by those descriptions. If a used book arrives in substantially worse condition than listed, contact us within 14 days and we will issue a full refund.
Used books that match their listed condition are not eligible for returns based on personal preference, as condition is inherent to the nature of secondhand books.
Non-returnable items
Digital downloads, gift cards, and items marked "Final Sale" cannot be returned or refunded under any circumstance.
Refund processing
Once we receive and inspect your return, refunds are issued to the original payment method within 5–7 business days. You will receive an email confirmation when your refund has been processed.
Warranty & exchanges
Defects in new books
New books with manufacturing defects — including misprints, missing pages, duplicate sections, or binding failures — are covered for 90 days from the date of purchase. Contact us with your order number and a photo of the defect. We will ship a replacement at no cost and you do not need to return the defective copy.
Condition disputes on used books
If a used book arrives in a condition meaningfully below what was listed, this is covered under our return policy above. We take our condition grading seriously and appreciate when customers flag discrepancies — it helps us serve everyone better.
Exchanges
Exchanges are accepted within 14 days of delivery for items of equal or lesser value. To request an exchange, email returns@darklyrooted.com with your order number and the title you would like in exchange. If the desired item is in stock, we will ship it once your original item is received. If it is not in stock, we will issue a store credit.
What we cannot cover
Normal wear consistent with a used book's listed condition, damage caused after delivery, and personal dissatisfaction with a book's content are not covered under our warranty or exchange policy.
